NCYC began in 1983 as a regional conference, with one session for the East Coast and one session for the West Coast. The regional conferences drew a few thousand youth attendees. NCYC then merged into a national conference in 1991, and interest in the conference began to grow. The conference now attracts over 15,000 youth and adults for three days of worship, music, and fun.
At NCYC, the most powerful moments often come not from the stage but from the voices of young people, parents, group leaders, and those who have encountered Christ in a deeply personal way. Testimony has the ability to move hearts, strengthen faith, and remind us that God is actively at work in the lives of His people. As we look back on NCYC, we’re grateful for the stories shared—stories of healing, vocation, renewed purpose, and encounters that continue to ripple far beyond the conference weekend.
Vocation Story with Deacon Khaing Thu
We sat down with Deacon Khaing Thu, a transitional deacon for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, for an interview on the impact NCYC had on his life and his vocation. AS a young person who attended NCYC, and this year had the opportunity to assist at Mass as a Deacon.
It’s stories like Deacon Khaing’s that remind us of the impact of NCYC.
What young people are saying
Joe Melendrez interviewed a handful of young people at NCYC to ask them the question, “If you could tell your friends about NCYC, what would you tell them?”
At NCYC, lives are changed, and our hope is that they leave NCYC and go into their communities, families, and parishes to help others encounter Christ.
